Man About A Horse
January 21, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm$19 - $22
With their blend of heartfelt originals, unique versions of popular tunes, and traditional bluegrass, Man About a Horse makes acoustic music that cuts across generational lines. And when you see them perform, you know they have a heck of a lot of fun doing it.
Their highly danceable shows have charmed audiences since their start in 2014, and a steady performing schedule is helping them build a fun and loyal fan base. Their sound brandishes strong ties to the folk music tradition, with a progressive streak that informs their original songwriting.
Man About a Horse was formed when two Philadelphia musicians, Matt Thomas (bass) and Roy Matthews (guitar and vocals), to discovered a shared love of bluegrass over beers at the famous Northern Liberties restaurant The Abbaye. The band’s roster now includes banjoist Dan Whitener (Gangstagrass, Blue Plate Special), Nate Lanzino (Fives, Ampersand Stringband), and Elizabeth Cary (Prometheus Chamber Orchestra).
Man About a Horse released a studio recording in 2015 (“The EP”) that earned national airplay. The band opened the main stage of the 2015 Philadelphia Folk Festival, and has shared bills with the likes of Donna the Buffalo, Steve ‘N’ Seagulls, Wood & Wire, and others at renowned venues around the East Coast. Their music has been featured on blogs such as The Key, the Random Tea Sessions, and Ear to the Ground.
Advance tickets are $19 and end at midnight before the show. General Admission tickets are $22. Online ticket sales for the early show close at 8:30pm on the day of the show, but tickets can still be purchased at the door if capacity allows.
